Five Safety Reminders When Fishing
Fishing is fun especially when you are able to catch a lot of fish. It can also be relaxing since you are with nature just enjoying the sun and your surroundings. But there are a few things to check before fishing. Safety should always be first because sometimes fishing can be dangerous and life-threatening if ever you get caught in unexpected and careless situations. Here are some things that a fisher needs to know to be safe when fishing.
• First of all, since fishermen always deal with the water, it is always best if the fisherman knows how to swim. This can always come in handy whenever there is an emergency whether the fisherman falls into the water or when attempting to rescue someone who fell into the water.
• Next, every fisherman should always have with them life jackets. This is to ensure the safety of the fisherman. This can come in handy especially if the person does not know how to swim but this does not mean that a person who knows how to swim should not wear one.
• Always be careful with your hooks whether you are casting your rod or you are storing it or just when simply handling it. Fish hooks are dangerous as these are pointed and sharp. Be careful not to hit other people while you are casting your hook as it might hit and wound someone easily. Also, when removing the hooks from a caught fish, one should also be careful as you might cut yourself while trying to remove the hook from the fish. That is why there are equipments used to remove hooks from fishes such as a hook gorger or long-nose pliers. If ever you cannot remove the hook from the fish, just leave it as it is because it will just rot away or it will just be removed the natural way.
• Another is not to attempt to swim in order to rescue another person if you do not know how to swim yourself because it could endanger your life as well. Now there are already two of you in the water needing to be rescued. Just look for other alternatives like getting a long branch for the person in need to reach, throw in a life jacket if available, or throw some things that can float in the water.
• You should always wear the proper clothing and have the proper equipment when fishing to avoid getting injured. Always wear a hat and a pair of sunglasses to protect your head and face from the sun. Wear a pair of gloves so as not to hurt your palms when holding the rod or when trying to land the fish. Wear rubber boots to protect your feet from rocks under the water. If on a boat, there should always be a life ring and life jackets.
Always remember that safety should always be first and is a must in fishing and in any other sport.
