Four Tips To Keeping Fishing Gears In Top Shape

While some people think that maintaining a fishing gear is time-consuming, tedious task, it can in fact be as enjoyable as it is to go fishing! The truth is, spending a bit of your time to maintain your fishing gear will save precious time, effort and money in the long run.

1. The fly rod of a fishing gear is of utmost importance. Oftentimes, it is the priciest piece; hence, it is important to ensure that it is clean and completely neat for it to function optimally. Always make it a habit to clean the fly rod after using. Similarly, it should be completely dried before keeping it. When clean and dry, store the fly rod in its hard tube container. Another valuable tip is to coat lightly the ferrules using paraffin. When broken or worn out parts of the fly rod come up, replace them immediately to avoid damaging other parts when used.

2. Coating your reel with corrosion-resistant chemical products is a must. When unused, keep the reel covered. Never drop the reel to the ground. It is suggested that the reel be washed.

3. The fly lines should not be replaced when they can still be repaired. In the past, line conditioners and coatings are necessary, but nowadays, more durable fishing lines are available, thus the maintenance kit is not as needed much as it was before. While it is a great idea to own several fishing flies, throwing out used ones is not necessary. Good cleaning every now and then, however, is necessary. Determining when to clean the fishing line is done through constant checking. In case the line feels like it is sticking, wash it using the mild soap and water mixture. Avoid standing on the fly line or rubbing it against anything. The fly line should be kept away from the sun when not in use. Solvents such as oil and bug dope should not touch the line.

4. Just like the fishing flies, the fishing hooks should be watched out for. Avoid corrosion that is especially caused by saltwater fishing by keeping the flies always dry. Additionally, make it a habit to rinse off the flies with lukewarm water. Again, be sure that they are completely dry before they are stored in their boxes.

Notably, cleaning and drying should be done after saltwater fishing. This is because saltwater quickly corrodes the fishing gear. When washing the fishing gear, just use mild detergent mixed with lukewarm water. It doesn't matter what type of fishing gear is used. Ensure at all times that the gear is completely dried before it is stored away. In addition, always make sure that the fishing gear is protected from all elements that may cause it to be destroyed, such as excessive sunlight, oils and dirt. These factors can easily damage your fishing gear.

It is absolutely worth it to keep your fishing gear always well maintained. As a hobby, the fishing activity is at its best when all gears work at their very best.
